Extract from the official history of the Dunhua Forestry Bureau, describing early deliveries of 28t locos. Dunhua’s first three 28t locos were second-hand Polish ones from the 1952 batch, but they received 4 new locos from Harbin in 1959 and a further 3 in 1960. In both cases the Harbin locos are described as ‘HongQi Brand’.
Extract from the proceedings of a conference on narrow-gauge railways in China, which took place in January 1960. This contemporary document gives the specifications for the 28t locos built at Harbin and Shijiazhuang. The entry on the right hand side can be translated as "Similar to the imported Polish KP4, Harbin Forestry Machinery Factory called it the HongQi class loco."

Extract from the history of narrow-gauge local railways in Hunan Province, describing the LiLiu Railway. The fleet description can be translated as "there are 9 C4 HongWei steam locomotives, 9 ZM16-4 HongQi steam locomotives, 5 380-horsepower diesel locomotives, and a total of 304 passenger and freight vehicles."

We have very few photos of 28t locos on the LiLiu Railway, but this one shows a mixed train crossing the most impressive structure on the line.
